Mythology and the Romantic Poets

Another great book:

Mythology and the Romantic Tradition in English Poetry by Douglas Bush, c. 1937; originally published by Harvard University Press. I have the Norton Library edition. What a phenomenal complement to Keld Zeruneith's The Wooden Horse.

Some of the poets covered:

Coleridge, 1772 - 1834
Wordsworth, 1770 - 1850
Byron, 1788 - 1824

Keats, 1795 - 1821
Shelley, 1792 - 1822

Tennyson, 1809 - 1892
Landor, 1775 - 1864
Arnold, 1822 - 1888

William Morris, 1834 - 1896
Swinburne, 1837 - 1909
Browning, Robert, 1812 - 1889
Meredith, 1828 - 1909

Just as the great Greek tragedians (Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides) turned to the great myths of Homer and Hesiod, so the Romantic poets returned to the same great myths in the 18th and 19th centuries.
