Hawks? Call them buteos!
One way to classify raptors: diurnal vs nocturnal
- nocturnal: owls
- diurnal: all the rest
Of the diurnal, what they eat:
- carrion: vultures
- life flesh: all the rest
The three orders:
- Vultures -- carrion
- Falcons -- live flesh
- kites, buteos (hawks), and eagles
- ospreys
- falcons -- a notch or "tooth" at tip of their beaks to kill prey; hawks don't have this "tooth"
- Owls -- nocturnal raptors
