Anaïs Nin: A Biography, Deirdre Bair, c. 1995. (Finished first reading, November, 2009)
This is the definitive biography. Bair explains/uncovers the collusion among the editor (Schulmann), publisher, and author of the first volume of diaries released in 1966/1967, by not stating the status of Nin (married) at the time she was involved with Henry Miller and numerous other men. Schulmann's introduction states Nin had a husband but does not state when they were married or if they were still married when Nin was involved with Miller, Rank, and many others. Nin and her first husband were married in 1923 and lasted a lifetime; the first volume covered the years 1931 - 1934. Schulman, in his introduction, also, does not state that Nin's first husband was a banker and paying her bills. Nin was by no means financially independent at that time. Whether she can be considered a feminist at the time she wrote her diaries in 1931 - 1934 is up to the individual reader to decide. I have my own myth, as JRR Tolkien would say.
In Favor of the Sensitive Man and Other Essays, Anais Nin, c. 1976 (earliest essay, 1966).
